Sigma | Copper Extravaganza Collection Brushes E25, E45 & E55

Monday, 27 January 2014

Sigma brushes have been on my lust list for so long as I have heard nothing but good things about them. I was so excited when I saw their new Copper Extravaganza collection, and having never purchased anything from Sigma I thought this was the perfect opportunity. I picked up three eye brushes, the E25, E45 and the E55 to try out and I will already tell you I am in love!

Sigma E25 & MAC 217
The E25 brush (£12.50) is made for blending cream or powder shadows onto the lid or crease. It has a soft oval shape with fairly dense bristles that give you control while your blending. The E25 picks up a good amount of colour to place colour onto the lid as well. This brush fits perfectly into the socket of my eye and creates such a beautiful blend with hardly any effort. Just use windshield wiper motions and you are good to go! The goat haired bristles are the softest I have ever found and this brush is a real pleasure to use. The E25 is very comparable if not identical to the MAC 217 which is also an amazing blending brush. I have included a photo of the two to see the difference (if there is any!). The standard E25 costs just £10.50 (from UK Stockists Beauty Chamber) compared to the MAC 217 which costs £18...I know which one I would chose!

The E45 (£11.95) is a small blending brush with a tapered tip. This brush gives much more precision that the E25 when blending. The bristles are dense yet flexible which is perfect for adding more depth to the crease of the eye if you are adding darker shadows. I love this brush to create cut crease looks too as it is so precise! Again the natural bristles of this brush are incredibly soft and make blending so easy. I don't have another brush like this one and it is already one I cannot live without!

The E55 (£10.95) is a large flat shader brush made for packing colour onto the lid. The oval shaped bristles are densely packed together to transfer as much colour onto the lid as possible. This brush is amazing! It gives great colour pay off to the lid with hardly any fallout at all. It is a great size for my lids which helps me to pack on eyeshadow quickly when I'm in a rush (which is most of the time!). A smaller version of this brush would be great for blending under the lower lash line!

Sigma have blown me away with the quality, price and selection of brushes they have to offer! Having been a lover of MAC brushes for many years, I don't know why it has taken me this long to try out Sigma when their brushes are cheaper and are better quality! I cannot wait to get my hands on more of their brushes and I have already been eyeing up their face brushes. If you have not tried Sigma brushes I urge you do to so. You will not be disappointed!

Sigma brushes are available from their webiste or from Beauty Chamber for my UK readers

Maybelline | Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser

Wednesday, 15 January 2014

Maybelline Baby Skin has been a highly anticipated over here in the UK. Their Baby Lips lip balms were one of the most hyped about beauty products of 2013, so I was very excited to give this primer from the same line a try.

Baby Skin has a translucent gel like formula with a high silicone content. It has a smooth velvet like feeling on the skin which is ever so slightly greasy. A little of this primer goes along way, I only use a pea sized amount which gives an even layer over my face. It feels really lightweight on the skin if you apply the right amount. I was a little heavy handed the first time I applied it which made my skin feel a bit cakey. It gives the skin a matte finish and on me it didn't cling onto any of the dry patches on my face.

This primer does a good job at blurring lines and pores on the skin. Even without my foundation on top I could see that my skin looked smoother, more even and my pores looked blurred. Even from the photo above you can see the fine lines are less noticeable. This primer gave me a really smooth base to apply my foundation to and did improve the look of it. My foundation did seem to last longer when I had Baby Skin underneath and controlled my oil well for around four hours. My skin isn't the most oily as I am mainly dry with an oily t-zone, so if you have really oily skin you will still need to powder. Maybelline also say you can add this primer on over the top of foundation to matify, which it does do. I personally like to use powder for touch ups.

Maybelline's Baby Skin gets a big thumbs up from me,  I think it does good job at minimizing the appearance of pores by blurring them rather than actually filling them in. I don't have a huge issue with my pores so this works just fine for me. In terms of keeping me matte again it does a good job and keeping my oil under control and doesn't cling to any dry patches which I have had trouble with in the past. The price is great for what it does and I think it is one of the top primers from the high street. Not to mention the packaging is adorable which only adds to its charm. Who can resist cute packaging?!

Maybelline's Baby Skin is available in store and online from Superdrug and Boots for £7.99 (22ml)

Moroccan Roots | 100% Pure Argan Oil

Monday, 13 January 2014

Argan oil is a hugely popular beauty product right now for its amazing moisturising properties. Most of us would only use it our hair for super shiny locks, but did you know its also amazing for your skin?Moroccan Roots kindly sent a 5ml sample of their 100% Pure Argan Oil* for me to try out and I have been using it non stop! Argan oil has so many benefits, it can be used to:
  • Improve hair's shine and manageability
  • Sooth skin after shaving
  • Strengthen eyelashes and brittle nails
  • Sooth psoriasis, eczema and rosacea
  • Replenish damaged skin cells after sun exposure
  • Preserve tattoos
  • Nourish dry lips
  • Reduce blemishes on the skin
  • Reduce stretch marks and regain skin's elasticity
  • Fight signs of aging
Over the past week I have mainly been using this oil as my night time moisturiser. I apply a thin layer onto my skin and in the morning my skin feels so soft and smooth. My skin has been suffering recently with the cold weather and being ill has made it very dehydrated. This oil has transformed my skin! It absorbs so quickly into the skin which means your skin doesn't feel really greasy.

I've also been adding a few drops of this oil onto my hair straight out of the shower. It gives me really smooth and silky hair. I also like using it after styling to control the frizz and keep it looking glossy.

I haven't used this on my body as I only have a small sample, but I'll be buying a bottle to take away with me on holiday and see how it soothes sunburn. I always ending up roasting myself a little to long in the sun!

Moroccan Roots Argan Oil is available to buy online and comes in three sizes (25ml for £9.99, 50ml for £14.99 and 100ml for £24.99) with a handy pipette applicator.

Do you love using Argan oil? What is your favourite way to use it?

Revlon | Colorburst Lipgloss in Embellished

Sunday, 12 January 2014

There is no doubt that the lip colours of the moment are deep berry, plum and wine shades. This just so happens to be one of my favourite lip trends ever and I have been obsessed with MAC's Rebel and Diva lipsticks over the last couple of months. With that in mind, this Revlon lipgloss from their new Evening Opulence collection instantly caught my eye!

Embellished is a deep burgundy with slightly purple undertones and purple shimmer running through it. On the lips, it's semi-opaque and looks much more wine toned than purple. The shimmer is noticeable but not in your face and I think adds dimension to this beautiful shade. The flat doe foot applicator makes this gloss really easy to apply and gives even coverage in a few quick strokes. As with most glosses, it has a slight stickiness to it but I don't find it annoying and it certainly isn't the stickiest gloss out there.

I love to wear this over my favourite berry lip shades to add a more glossy finish. Over Rebel it looks more purple, and over Diva it looks more burgundy. When I want something less intense but still slightly vampy I will wear it alone. I think this gloss would be great for someone who wants to experiment with the darker lip trend but wants something more toned down and daytime appropriate. It terms of wear it lasted around four hours on me and left a slight stain behind.

Revlons' packaging with this line of glosses is in my opinion some of the best packaging from a high street brand. The black quilted design is so simple and gives it an expensive look.

This is a beautiful gloss from Revlon and is bang on trend for this time of year. Embellished is one of three glosses from the Evening Opulence collection and can be purchased from Superdrug or Boots for £7.99.

Are you a fan of the berry lip trend? What are your favourite shades?

KIKO | Mat Base Corrector Primer

Wednesday, 8 January 2014

The Mat Base Corrector from KIKO is a new addition to my makeup collection, and has already made quite an impression. It is designed to be worn under foundation to help minimise the appearance of pores, and to keep unwanted shine at bay during the day.

The Mat Base Corrector is different to a lot of other primers on the market in its formula. It has a gel like consistency compared to most that are very much silicone based. You would think that this attribute would hinder its ability to mask pores and fine lines. Surprisingly it does this job with ease giving me a flawless base to apply my foundation.

The consistency is pretty thick and slightly difficult to get out of the tube, however once on the skin it blends in effortlessly using very little product. This primer does dry relatively quickly so I found the best way to apply this is section by section applying my foundation as I go.

This primer instantly matifies my face and keeps it matte all day. I have mainly dry skin with an oily t-zone and this primer combats the oil without making the rest of my face look overly dry or cakey. Sometimes I only apply it to my t-zone area if I want to keep my makeup light or if I want more of a dewy finish on the rest of my face. My foundation stays in place twice as long when I use this and keeps it from breaking up around my chin and nose. I love to wear this primer on a night out as I hardly have to powder throughout the night if at all.  It also does a fabulous job at minimizing my pores, particularly on the cheek area.

KIKO are a brand that are relatively new to me. In the last few months have tried out a couple of products from them, and so far I am yet to be disappointed. The quality of their products is that of a high end brand yet their price point is more than reasonable! A winning combination in my opinion!

KIKO Mat Base Corrector Primer is available in-store and online for £8.90- link
