NYX Liquid Illuminator | Gleam

Friday, 21 March 2014

Highlighters have to be one of my favourite beauty products. I love the look of glowing skin and how fresh and healthy a highlight can make you look. The newest highlighter I have added to my collection is this beautiful liquid highlighter from NYX in the shade Gleam

Gleam has a beautiful peachy rose tone to it with a stunning gold sheen. This highlighter looks like liquid rose gold! Some highlighters can have quite chunky glitter content to them, Gleam however has a finely milled shimmer to it which is perfect for a more natural looking highlight that can be worn day or night. As it has has a warmer tone, this shade is perfect for more tanned skin and will give you such a sun kissed glow. I can't wait to wear this on holiday!

Being a liquid, this highlight blends beautifully onto the skin with minimal effort and sets to a beautiful natural finish. I love that this highlight keeps its dewy look even after it sets and doesn't turn powdery at all. Gleam has lovely pigmentation which has just the right amount of intensity to it. One drop of this stuff is enough to highlight each cheek for me so this 18ml tube should last me a while! My favoruite ways to apply this is by stippling onto my cheekbones with a small duo fibre brush or just by tapping it on with my fingers.

On me, this liquid illuminator can last around 5 hours before it begins to fade which is fabulous for a creamy product. Cream and liquid face products are perfect for anyone like me who has dry skin but loves the dewy look.

I have become absolutely obsessed with this highlight and I can already tell this will be my favourite highlighter for this spring and summer! The peachy tone adds warmth to my face as well as a beautiful natural glow. NYX also have another shade in the range which is more of a champagne shade which will be perfect for paler skin girls. If you love a dewy highlighter that gives you a beautiful warm glow you NEED this in your life!

NYX Liquid Illuminator in Gleam is available online for £7.00

NYX Cream Blush | Glow

Monday, 17 March 2014

While on NYX Cosmetic's website recently I saw this beautiful cream blush called Glow and I had to have it. I have really been loving cream face products recently and I decided I needed to own a cream blush (I even shocked myself that I don't own any!).

Glow is a warm bright pink shade with hints of coral to it.  I usually wear more coral and peach shades on my cheeks so I was excited to try something a little bit out of my comfort zone. This shade to me epitomises spring and summer!

Being a cream blush you obviously expect it to be creamy, but this blush feels like butter! The pigmentation of this blush is amazing so you only need the smallest amount to give your cheeks a beautiful flush of colour.

My favourite way to apply this blush is with a duo fibre brush. I first stipple the colour onto my cheeks and then go back and blend in a circular motion. This blush blends like a dream and has such a natural dewy finish to the skin. Even once set, this blush doesn't go powdery.

Cream blushes are great for people with dry skin and who love the dewy look. Which is why I am in love with the way it looks on me! I managed to get about 5 hours wear from this blush until it began to fade, but it didn't go patchy at all. If you have oily skin, the longevity of wear may be less unless you set it with either a powder blush or translucent powder.

I don't know why its taken this long for me to purchase a cream blush, but its safe to say I'm now hooked! I love the natural flush it gives my cheeks as well as the dewy finish which I particularly love in the spring and summer months. Glow will look even more beautiful when I have a bit of a tan later on in the year!

NYX have such a good shade range of cream blushes to choose from, with a total of 11 in the collection. For only £5.50 each I am amazed by the quality of them. I am yet to be disappointed by any of their products. I will no doubt be picking up more of these blushes in the near future as I already have my eye on the shade Orange!

NYX Cream Blushes are available online now in 11 shades

NYX Cosmetics Haul!

Saturday, 15 March 2014

I have been eyeing up these products on NYX's website for a little while now, and I decided to treat myself! NYX are a really affordable brand with really great products. They have recently started to stock in some Next stores across the country and I can't wait until they are stocked near me. This is just a little post to show you what I purchased, so check back for full in depth reviews on them!

Born To Glow Liquid Illuminator | Gleam £7.00
I have been experimenting with cream highlighters recently and have been on the hunt for a pinky toned one. This will be perfect in the spring and summer time for a dewy highlight.

Cream Blush | Glow £5.50
Keeping with the dewy skin theme, I wanted to experiment with a cream blush. I don't own any cream blushes so I went with the colour Glow which is a classic coral pink shade. I can't wait to try it!

Slide On Eye Pencil | Jet Black £7.50
I have been on the hunt for a really black eye pencil that can last in the waterline. I already have one of these pencils in the colour Azure which is a really intense blue and I am in love with it. So I'm excited to see how I get on with the black one

Wonder Pencil | Light £4.50
I have heard about this pencil on other peoples blogs aswell as on youtube and so many people love it. This flesh toned pencil can be used in so many ways from in the waterline to brighten, to an invisible lip liner.

Lorde To Collaborate With MAC This Summer

Friday, 14 March 2014

Image: MAC Cosmetics
Lorde announced this week that she will be collaborating with MAC Cosmetics this summer to release a limited edition collection.

"I have loved MAC Cosmetics since I was a little kid. I remember saving up to buy my very first MAC lipstick [Snob] at 14, and it was used by about 20 of my friends! MAC has a very clear aesthetic, that has always felt fashion forward to me. So I was really excited to work with them on these products, which I use pretty much every day and night. I hope you will too,"- Lorde

I'm sure we can expect to see some seriously vampy lip shades in the collection, which seem to be the singers signature look. I happen to love deep and dark lip shades but for a summer collection this seems a little odd? I think this sort of collab would be best suited to the winter months...

The collection is expected on June 5th this year.

Manuka Doctor | Mini Hero Kit

Manuka Doctor's products are something I have been hearing about in the blogger world for a little while now, but have never got round to trying any of their products. So you can imagine my excitement when I got to sample the Mini Hero Kit. The Mini Hero Kit* contains three generously sized samples of three products from three different ranges as well as a fabulous 25% discount code on your next order. The best thing about this little kit is that its FREE to try (usually £12.99) with just £2.50 to pay for postage.

The first sample is from the ApiClear range and is their Skin Treatment Serum (5ml). This serum claims to reduce blemishes, balance your skin and make your skin appear more youthful and even in tone. This was the sample I was most excited about trying. As followers of my blog will know, I am prone to breakouts on my forehead and chin area, so any product that will help balance my skin I am more than willing to give it a go! This gel like serum has a really cooling effect on the skin and feels so refreshing when I apply it. I noticed results with this serum within a few days of using it morning and night. It reduced the redness of my blemishes overnight as well as reducing their size. I will definitely be picking up a full size of this serum because its worked so well for me!

The next sample is from their ApiRefine range and is their Targeted Wrinkle Filler. This is clinically proven to reduce wrinkles in just 30 minutes as well as lift tired skin making you look more youthful. Only being 22, I can't say that I have any wrinkles on my face just yet however prevention can't hurt! This wrinkle filler contains purified bee venom, that boosts collagen to the skin making it firmer. I applied this cream around my eyes and forehead. My skin definitely felt firmer and looked smoother around my eyes even after just one use.

The third sample in the kits is from the ApiNourish range and is their Rejuvenating Face Mask. This mask intensely moisturises the skin leaving it feeling and looking smoother. This mask is an absolute dream on the skin. It doesn't just sit on the surface of your skin, instead it soaks into it and makes it feel so nourished and refreshed. You don't need alot to get a good layer onto the skin, so the sample in this pack lasted me a few weeks. I really loved this mask and will be buying the full size with my 25% off voucher!

This little kit is such a great idea for anyone interested in Manuka Doctor's products and gives you the opportunity to try out products from three different ranges. If you are like me and love to try out lots of skincare products you would be crazy to pass on trying these out for free!

The Mini Hero Kit is available to order here for free (post charges apply) for a limited time only, so make sure you check them out!

March Lust List

Thursday, 13 March 2014

In my quest to save a bit of money for my upcoming holiday to Egypt, I have been rationing myself to only a few beauty purchases per month (crazy I know). I now have a list as long as my arm of beauty products I really want to try and plan on treating myself heavily at the airport in two weeks! This is just a little post to show you the top six beauty products I'm lusting for this month!

Smashbox Full Exposure Palette
A girl can never have too many neutral eye shadows right? This palette caught my eye instantly with its mix of matte and shimmer formulas, as well as cool and warm tones. I have never bought anything from Smashbox before and this palette has been well received by beauty bloggers everywhere. I can't wait to get my hands on it!

Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara
I have been eyeing this mascara up for a very long time now but have never got round to picking it up. The wand of this mascara is so tiny that it can coat every single bottom lash. I'm very clumsy when it comes to applying mascara and always smudge it, so I have a feeling I will love this!

Ysl Le Teint Touche Eclat Foundation
I had a tester of this foundation and absolutely fell in love with it! It gives such a beautiful dewy natural finish which is perfect for my dry skin. This is the perfect foundation for spring as its not too heavy but still gives a good medium coverage. My tester ran out a few weeks ago and I'm already lost without it.

Perricone MD Blue Plasma
This crazy looking product from Perricone MD has intrigued me ever since I saw it. It's a non acidic daily peel that resurfaces and unveils beautiful skin. I have heard nothing but good things about this and for £78 I would hope so too! This is definitely a splurge purchase, so I think I will sample a smaller bottle before I would be happy to spend that much!

GlamGlow SuperMud Clearing Treatment
I have been wanting this mask for so long, but I have held off as I had so many unused face masks in my bathroom cabinet! Now I've made some room for it, I can't wait to get my hands on it! This particular mask helps to fight against blemishes and remove all the impurities from your skin.

Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick In Native
All of Urban Decay's Revoloution lipsticks are raved about for being super creamy, hydrating and super pigmented (what more could you want from a lipstick!). The shade Native instantly caught my eye being a beautiful pinky nude shade. I love nude lipsticks as they are so easy to wear. Native looks like the perfect pretty shade for spring and summer.

I hope you enjoyed my little lust list for March. I hope to purchase some of these products in the near future so stay tuned for some reviews! Let me know what products you have been eyeing up as I love hearing your recommendations of things to try.

All You Need To Know About Duo Fibre Brushes

Sunday, 2 March 2014

Duo fibre brushes are some of the most versatile brushes that you can have in your collection. If you don't know what duo fibre brushes are, they are a blend of of either goat and synthetic fibres or two types of synthetic fibres that are arranged in such a way to give lightweight and controlled application of liquid, cream or powder products.

I must admit that I have overlooked the duo fibre brushes I own for a little while, and decided to experiment with all the ways I can use them. I own a few shapes and sizes that I like to use for certain areas of the face and I am always so impressed by the flawless, yet natural look that they achieve! I have compiled a list of all the ways I like to use mine...

When I don't feel like using my fingers to apply primer, I like to use a large duo fibre to get a light and even application. I actually think my primer does it's job better when I apply it with a brush...If you think about it touching your face with greasy fingers can't help your primer to control oil!

This is the most obvious way to use your duo fibre. They work so well with any type of foundation from liquid and creams to powder formulas. Light pressure and a circular motion is the key to perfecting foundation to make sure you don't get streaky marks from the bristles. I like to use this type of brush when I want quite light coverage. For me, I find that a little product goes a lot further when I use a duo fibre and I find my foundation looks a lot less cakey and so flawless!

Using a duo fibre to set my foundation with powder always looks so natural and just beautiful. I have quite dry skin, so over powdering can look awful. A large duo fibre gives me a really light coverage.

Cream & Powder Contouring/ Bronzing
This has to be my favourite way of using my duo fibres. It gives such a natural look to the skin which contouring and bronzing should be. A smaller and more precise brush is perfect for contouring as it gets right into the hollows of the cheeks. An even smaller brush (eye shadow sized) can give a beautiful contour to the nose. For overall bronzing, a larger brush gives a a beautiful all over glow.

When using cream or powder blushes, duo fibres give a beautiful diffused look. Duo fibres are great for blushes that are really pigmented to make sure you don't use too much and end up looking like a clown!

I like to use a smaller duo fibre to highlight the high points of my face. This is great to use with highly pigmented highlighters to avoid looking like a disco ball!

Once I've applied my contour, blush and highlight, I like to go back in with a large duo fibre and lightly blend it all together. I never miss this step now! It finishes off my face makeup perfectly and makes it looks so much more natural. This step knocks off any excess product if you use too much of a heavy hand. Try this once and it will change your life!

A Few Of My Favourite Duo Fibre Brushes
For beginners in makeup, or for a selection of duo fibre brushes, I would highly recommend the Real Techniques Duo Fibre Collection. You get three brushes in the set that are different sizes and can do all the jobs I just mentioned. It is a really great set! You can read my review here and they can be purchased from Fragrance Direct where the set it is currently on sale! Another great brand for duo fibres is e.l.f. They sell a variety of sizes from just £3.95 each! The small stippling brush is PERFECT for contouring! If you fancy splurging on a brush I would highly recommend the MAC 187. Its a larger brush and I love it for foundation and bronzing. Crown Brush & Sigma also have a great selection of duo fibre brushes which unfortunately I haven't got round to trying out yet!

I hope you found this post helpful and found some exciting new ways to use your duo fibre brushes! Let me know which ones you have in your collection and your own favourite ways to use them!
