MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer | Atomic

MUA are a brand that I'm not very familiar with in terms of trying out their products. They are an incredibly affordable beauty brand found in most Superdrug stores with quite a vast range of products. I am a bit embarrassed to admit that I judged this brand on their prices...A £1 lipstick surely can't be amazing right?
A few weeks ago I found myself eyeing up their Velvet Lip Lacquers £3 from the new Luxe range from the brand (generally the products are meant to be of higher quality and have nicer packaging). I had previously read a really positive review by Gemma from Miss Makeup Magpie and I had to try one out for myself and get a bit more familiar with MUA!

I wanted to start with a little nag about the packaging. Whilst I really love the look of the frosted tube of this lacquer and the simple black lid and gold writing, am I the only one that finds the card board outer layer pointless? If I was MUA I would have skipped this to save the paper or housed it in an actual box. The chunky outer packaging cheapens the look of the product and looks quite messy on the shelves. As you can see mine is slightly ripped and bent and this was the most intact one I could find in my store.

I decided to go for the shade Atomic of the five shades on offer. I would Atomic describe as a bright orangey red shade. This shade to me epitomises summer and will look absolutely amazing with a bit of a tan. This shade certainly isn't for the faint hearted as it super bold and almost neon.

The doe foot applicator makes it super easy to apply to the lips and you get crazy pigmentation from just one swipe. The trick with these lacquers is to apply in thin layers. When I applied it for the first time I applied way too much which meant it didn't really set and ended up being a sticky peeling mess. Thankfully I've had much better luck since then! It sets to a beautiful matte finish which isn't too stiff or powdery and lasts literally all day. I can eat and drink without having to touch up unless I'm eating something really oily. As with most matte lip products it will cling to dry patches so make sure you exfoliate before application and keep your lips moisturised! I do notice some feathering around the edge of my lips after a few hours but if I usually always wear lip liners with most lip products to avoid this. To remove it at the end of the day you definitely need an oil based cleanser or makeup remover or you'll be there for quite some time scrubbing away!

Having never tried anything from the brand before I didn't have very high expectations but the quality of this Lip Lacquer has really impressed me. The pigmentation is phenomenal, has great longevity of wear and the shade is absolutely stunning. Yes the packaging could be better but for £3 I think they've done the best they could! I will be checking out the other super bright shades in the range and hope they come out with some deep berry shades for autumn and winter!

The MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer's are available from Superdrug for £3 each
